Sorry folks, I didn't mean to leave things running silent for so long. If I have any readers left at all, they can expect to see my thoughts on Iron Man, Doctor Who, and Torchwood Season 1 in the near future.
In the meantime, who do you expect to be on the team in the Avengers movie? Some of them are no-brainers, but there are quite a few possibilities out there.
I'm still here, anyway.
I'm sure The Avengers movie will be Everyone Who's Starred in a Movie For Marvel Studios By Then (Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Hulk) and maybe Hawkeye or some other POV character.
I imagine that the big guns - Iron Man, Hulk, Cap, Thor, Ant-Man - will show up. Basically everyone who has starred in a movie up till then (as Anthony said).
Otherwise I imagine a couple of smaller, mainstay characters who can't necessarily hold their own films (Hawkeye, Wasp).
Yeah, I figure Hulk, Iron Man, Cap, and Thor are the obvious ones, and Ant-Man or Giant Man and Wasp would be likely to show up (since they're unlikely to carry their own film). But there's also the possibility of the New Avengers cast: what do you think about Spider-Man and Wolverine for instance? Luke Cage?
I'm predicting Iron Man and Hulk, plus Thor and Ant-Man, as a springboard for their future movies, and Wasp as the token female. Not sure about Cap -- if I were them, I'd make a Cap film separate from the first Avengers movie and then bring him on the team for the sequel.
Aren't Spidey and Wolverine still tied up with Sony and Fox (respectively)? If so, I would think it would be a little difficult to implement them in an Avengers film. However, I guess Marvel could go the Justice League route and hire new actors for the roles.
If they could get around the rights issue, I guess I wouldn't mind seeing them there, but I think I would rather see Avengers mainstays translate to the big screen than guys who've already had a couple of go-rounds.

I saw it suggested somewhere (I forget where) that Cap's own film would strictly consist of his WWII origins, and end with him falling into the ocean; thus leaving the Avengers to pull him out (a la The Ultimates) as a sort of way of coming together beyond SHIELD. I think that could be interesting.
